Cardigan Cottages
Ceredigion is a hidden jewel of Southern Britain, hugging the Irish sea on the Western seaboard of Wales in an area known as Cardigan Bay, and is one of the reasons why holiday makers return year after year staying in Cardigan cottages during their holiday. Away from the small number of major town settlements, the county has a remote feel like no other county in Wales, in part, owing to it’s coverage of the Cambrian Mountains. Many Ceredigion holiday cottages in the area are well suited for rural retreats, and are indeed and excellent choice.
The relatively sparse population of this coastal county and wide open spaces, is an ideal holiday destination for those seeking to get away from it all. The remote inland area that borders to the east of Ceredigion is home to the so called ’Welsh Desert’ region of Wales. This area encompasses the Cambrian mountains which stretch throughout the county. Starting at the remote Preseli mountains in Pembrokeshire up to Snowdonia. Ceredigion’s highest point is Plynlimon, at nearly 2,500 feet was immortalised in the nineteenth century by the Cornish writer George Borrow in his book Wild Wales. Plynlimon is the source of both the River Severn and River Wye. Though it may take the most intrepid explorer to find the exact source!
